Dentists are strong believers in patients having the best and healthiest smile imaginable without it being costly or causing much discomfort. We believe a patient can have quick results from teeth whitening without having to go into seclusion to have a tooth whitening experience. It is our job to make sure the patient is aware of all options available and which ones are more suited to the patient’s needs.
Staining Factors
The following are some of the many reasons why people’s teeth become stained or discolored:

- Drinks like coffee, tea and red wine
- Eating foods that stain teeth (like blueberries)
- Medication side effects
- Poor oral hygiene
- Tobacco use (such as smoking or chewing)
- Tooth root or nerve damage
- Tooth root or nerve decay
While all teeth whitening products will whiten teeth to a certain extent, they are ineffective on false teeth (veneers, crowns and dentures). We will make known any issues concerning replacement teeth at your consultation.
A variety of tooth whitening procedures are available. We prefer to use the take-home kit as they are more reliable and better value for the money.
You will attend for an initial consultation for an assessment and impression of your teeth to fabricate your custom whitening trays. Usually, within 2 weeks we then see you again for a fitting of your new trays and full instructions. We use only the most tried and tested, evidence-based products, these are different from the harsh non-tested products you can get online or from sources other than your dentist. Ordinarily, tooth whitening takes about 2 weeks, but in some cases can be even quicker.
Remember that no cosmetic treatment is ever done without first considering the patient’s overall oral health. If there are any issues with cavities and tooth decay discovered at your consultation, your dentist will develop a plan to address these issues first.
